Mittersill is sandwiched between the massive peaks of the Hohe Tauern National Park to the South, and the Kitzbühel Alps to the north, making it an ideal location for cycling activities of all kinds. Home to world class events such as numerous UCI World Cup and World Championship (XC and DH) events, Giro d’Italia stages, Trans-Alp races and Audi Nine Nights slopestyle competitions, the terrain offers both challenge and unsurpassed natural beauty for any rider. Similarly, camps in this region of Salzburg offer an unforgettable experience on the mountain bike to all passionate riders. Fantastic trails and terrain, with a backdrop of Austria’s highest peaks and glaciers, are guaranteed to create a magical cycling experience.
The epicenter of many forms of cycling
The Giro d’Italia did not pass through the quiet little town for no reason. This was due to the fact that some of the most famous climbs in Austria are accessible from Mittersill. These include the Kitzbüheler Horn and the Grossglockner High Alpine Road, the highest paved pass in Austria. Additionally, the Ironman 70.3 World Championships are held just down the road in Zell am See. Finally, the 2019 Red Bull Pumptrack World Championship Qualifier for Austria will be held in Mittersill. Most importantly though, numerous rides for all ability levels travel through some of the most beautiful terrain in all of the Alps.
The upper Pinzgau Valley has become a leader in all forms of electric transportation, with nearby Wald getting international press for its push towards renewable energy for transportation. Infrastructure for e-bikes is growing rapidly with routes and charging stations being added on a regular basis. Even for the most advanced riders, e-bikes offer the ability to open up a huge number of possibilities. One of our favorite tours is a day filled with two 1300 meter descents up and over a stunning alpine ridge to the famous Saalbach area and back. No lifts required.
